SCRIPTURE

Psalm 63:1 (ESV)

“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”

 DEVOTIONAL

You can be functioning, faithful, and productive — and still be dry.

David wrote Psalm 63 from the wilderness, a place of lack and desperation. Yet instead of focusing on his circumstances, he names his deepest need: “My soul thirsts for you.” Dryness has a way of revealing what we’ve been living on instead of what truly sustains us.

This first day of fasting isn’t about striving or fixing ourselves. It’s about awareness. About honestly acknowledging the places where distraction, self-reliance, or complacency have pulled us from the Living Water.

Before God fills, He invites us to be honest.

PRAYER

by Brandy from Pray the Bay Team

Heavenly Father, our souls are parched for You.

We confess the things that have kept us dry: our distractions, our sin, our complacency, and our self-reliance.

We repent of not planting ourselves closer to Your Living Water.

Jesus, meet the people of the Bay Area in these dry places.

Remind us that we are thirsty — and that it is You we thirst for.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

REFLECTION + INVITATION

Today, don’t rush past the dryness. Sit with it. Name it. Offer it to God.

Ask Him:

    •    Where have I been spiritually dry?

    •    What have I been drinking from instead of You?

    •    What would it look like to seek You earnestly again?

This is only the beginning of the journey — from dryness → desperation → drinking → overflow.

If you’re thirsty, you’re in the right place.
