SCRIPTURE

Psalm 42:1–2

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?”

 DEVOTIONAL

Thirst has a way of demanding our attention.

The psalmist doesn’t describe a mild desire for God he describes urgency. Like a deer desperate for water, his soul aches, pants, and longs. This kind of thirst doesn’t allow distraction or delay. It presses in. It insists. It makes everything else secondary.

Spiritual dryness is often exhausting because we try to ignore it. We keep moving, functioning, filling our days while our souls quietly ache for the Living God. Psalm 42 reminds us that this ache is not weakness; it is invitation.

God does not shame our thirst. He reveals it because He alone is the source that can satisfy it.

PRAYER

by Honour, Student of Dwelling Place School

“Lord, would You open our eyes to the thirst we have for You, a thirst that cannot be ignored.

A thirst that leaves us spiritually tired, weary, and aching.

Help us realize that You are the source that You are the Living Water we need day in and day out, in every moment.

We thank You that You never run out, that Your goodness never fails.

In Jesus’ name, amen.”

REFLECTION + INVITATION

Pay attention to your thirst today, don’t silence it.

Ask Him:

  • What has been competing for my attention instead of God?

  • Where have I felt spiritually tired or drained?

  • What would it look like to let my thirst lead me back to Him?

Let your thirst move you, not toward temporary relief, but toward the Living God.
