SCRIPTURE
Amos 8:11
“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.”
DEVOTIONAL
A city can be full and still be thirsty.
In Amos 8, God speaks of a famine that has nothing to do with food or water. It is a deeper lack, a famine of hearing the Word of the Lord. When God’s voice is no longer sought or heard, a people can remain busy, successful, and functioning while their souls quietly dry out.
This is not just a personal reality, it is a regional one. Today, we widen our prayer beyond ourselves and intercede for our city. The Bay Area is filled with innovation, ambition, and movement… yet beneath it all, there is a spiritual thirst that only God’s Word can satisfy.
Today, we ask God to stir thirst again. To awaken hearts. And to let His Word become Living Water in our city.
PRAYER
by Nikko - Pastor of Home Church + Pray The Bay Director
“God, we come before You on behalf of the Bay Area.
We ask that You would stir up a thirst in our hearts again for Your Word.
We repent of the ways we’ve exchanged Your truth for our own ways —
Your glory for our own agendas.
Thank You for Your mercy, that Your hand still reaches and Your voice still speaks over this region.
We confess that this land is parched, dry, and weary.
Lord, let Your Word become Living Water to the Bay Area.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”
REFLECTION + INVITATION
Today, lift your eyes beyond yourself.
Ask Him:
Where has our city grown spiritually dry?
How can I intercede for my neighborhood, workplace, or community?
What would it look like for God’s Word to flow freely here again?
A thirsty city is not beyond hope.
God is still speaking.
