SCRIPTURE
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
DEVOTIONAL
Desperation often shows up as weariness.
Jesus doesn’t speak these words to people who have it all together, He speaks to the tired, the burdened, and the exhausted. Weariness exposes a deeper thirst: a longing not just for relief, but for rest that only He can give.
As we move further into this phase of desperation, we recognize that exhaustion is not a sign of failure, it’s an invitation. Jesus doesn’t ask us to fix ourselves first. He simply says, “Come to me.”
Today, desperation looks like slowing down long enough to respond. To stop carrying what was never meant to be carried alone. And to come honestly before Jesus, trusting that His rest is real and available.
PRAYER
by Derik | Pastor at Rise City Church + Pray The Bay Director
“Lord, today we pause.
We breathe in Your rest, and we breathe out our exhaustion.
We pray across the Bay Area, that a thirst would rise among Your people.
A thirst for Your rest. A thirst for Your righteousness. A thirst simply to be with You.
God, we need You.
There is no other option. There is no other source.
Would You give us rest today, across our city, our communities, and our hearts.
We love You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”
REFLECTION + INVITATION
Today, respond to Jesus’ invitation.
Ask Him:
What burdens am I carrying that I need to bring to You?
Where has my weariness revealed a deeper thirst?
What would it look like to come to You honestly today?
Desperation doesn’t push us away from Jesus.
It pulls us closer.
Come to Him.
