SCRIPTURE
John 4:13-14
“Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.””
DEVOTIONAL
You can know a lot about water and still be dehydrated.
In John 4, Jesus doesn’t offer explanation, He offers Himself. He draws a clear line between knowing about the water and actually drinking it. Information may inform us, but it cannot satisfy us. Only receiving what Jesus gives can quench the thirst of our souls.
As we move deeper into this phase of desperation, God invites us beyond familiarity. Beyond sermons, routines, and spiritual language. Desperation leads us to desire encounter, not just knowledge, but transformation.
Today is an invitation to stop standing near the well and start drinking. To move from knowing Jesus to experiencing Him personally. The Living Water is not meant to be observed, it is meant to be received.
PRAYER
by Rob | Pastor at New North Church
“Father, how much we need Your Living Water, welling up inside of us to eternal life.
Forgive us for the places we’ve been drinking from sources that have left us thirsty, dry, and longing for more.
God, we need the Living Water that only You can give.
Would You give it to us now?
Give us a deeper thirst and a greater hunger for You.
We don’t want just information, we want encounter.
Transform our hearts again with Your Living Water.
Holy Spirit, come.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”
REFLECTION + INVITATION
Today, examine how you’ve been approaching Jesus.
Ask Him:
Where have I settled for knowledge instead of encounter?
What would it look like to truly drink, not just observe?
How do You want to meet me personally today?
Desperation moves us from knowing — to drinking.
Come and receive.
