SCRIPTURE

Jeremiah 17:13

“O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you shall be put to shame; those who turn away from you shall be written in the earth, for they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living water.”

 DEVOTIONAL

It is possible to be surrounded by abundance and still be empty.

Jeremiah names the tragedy plainly: when God is forsaken, thirst follows. Not because God withholds, but because He alone is the fountain. Everything else promises life but cannot sustain it.

As we move deeper into this phase of desperation, today invites us to stop pretending fullness is enough. Comfort, success, activity, distraction, none of these quench the soul. Only the Living Water does.

This is not a day of shame. It is a day of honesty and return. God does not rebuke thirst, He responds to it. When we turn back to Him, we return to the source we were created for.

PRAYER

by Dan | Pastor at Presence City Church

“O Lord, the hope of Israel…they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living water.”

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus.

Today, we recognize that all other waters leave us dry, empty, and dissatisfied on the inside.

We repent on behalf of our generation, our region, and the Bay Area for seeking life in things that cannot offer life.

Today, Lord, we draw near to You, trusting that as we draw near, You draw near to us.

We respond again to Your invitation: If anyone is thirsty, let them come and drink.

Jesus, thank You for offering Living Water, the water of the Spirit that satisfies the deepest places of our souls.

So today, O God, we seek Your face and Your water in our lives and in our region.

In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.”

REFLECTION + INVITATION

Take time today to ask:

  • Where have I been full, but still empty?

  • What have I looked to for life apart from God?

  • What would it look like to return fully to the fountain?

God is not distant.

He is the source.

Come back and drink.
